OzGirl Launches! Episode 1 - A New Life

Postby nwc2001 » Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:49 am

OzGirl FINALLY launches! Sadie leaves the country to stay with her cousin, Megan in the big city of Melbourne. :) I'm very excited to finally bring you the show and look forward to reading all your thoughts and comments!

Show can be followed on YouTube or Bebo (with more channels coming soon, Bebo vids are best quality for some reason):

From Sadie's Bebo blog:
OMG! I'm in the city!
Well... I did it!! After months of procrastinating and deciding I finally had the guts to move! It was hard saying goodbye to Lisa and my Dad and bros but honestly now that I'm in the city.. it feels SSSOOO good!!

I am literally over the moon! This is everything I ever dreamed of when I was a child! Everything is so amazing here. The people, the cars, the trams (haha I've never been on one but I'm worried I'll fall down... I'm such a klutz). There's a real buzz and I love it!

So I'm staying at Megan's place. She's been so nice about taking me in. Obviously I'll have to pay rent soon but I'll find a job later. Hopefully I can get something in photography. She said she has some plans for me!! If she's still the same, she's pretty crazy! So I wonder what she has in store.

It should be fun moving in with her! We can have slumber parties...hahaha remember, like when we were kids? It'll be great! She's such a fun girl.

Anyway that's all for now! I have to unpack!! :P

xoxo
Sadie

ps. On a side note... luckily where my orchard is we weren't affected by the bush fires. It's really terrible what is happening and my thoughts are with all the families who have lost their houses, or even worse their loved ones. :(

Congrats on the launch.

It will be interesting if the revenue stream you have established at the end of the video works out. You may be pioneering something here! Good luck!

I don't have a Bebo account and I didn't think I'd be able to watch it there, but fortunately I can. The video quality is really good.

I was pretty turned off by the marketing stuff at the end. I understand the need for "revenue streams," but this whole show kind of feels like an excuse to sell stuff. I got a notice on Facebook that their online store was open before they even put the show up, which feels weird to me. I buy merchandise for shows I'm already attached to, and I get attached when I get to see who the characters are and what the story is. Nothing much happened in this episode, and then they marketed at me for 2 minutes. That doesn't work for me.

hey parenthical,

I fully understand how you feel and we will address this as this was an issue for me too. I wrote about this on another post here - viewtopic.php?f=59&t=1923

The point of the show is not to sell things. It is to entertain and tell a story. However the reality is we need money to keep that going so we have tried to be creative with our monetization strategy. That said the clip probably runs too long so I will be trimming it down in future episodes and also making it appear once every 2 eps. Hopefully this leaves the focus on the story.

nick - thanks for filling us in! i think being honest about the purpose is the best way to get acceptance about the realities of webshow finances. and post-roll advertising is much better than pre- or interstitial ads, once people get used to the format they can decide whether to watch (and a certain % will cut it there, but at least they watched the episode, which they wouldn't if you started with any pre-roll ads)

Charming debut, I suspect this will not be just some "country mouse/city mouse" comparison. Looking forward to more!

so...am I mistaken - it's possible I could have missed something here - but didn't OzGirl fizzle shortly after the assault episode? If not, where is it? If so, how in the world did it qualify, let alone wina an award?

Like I said, it's very possible I missed something...if so please clue me in
