not everything that sounds "eighties" (in the flock of seagulls-conjuring usage) is bad. as my next post will prove :-)

ok, i lied, this post is not about the 80s. that will come soon.

MINMI - Happy Song (2004)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvusaIJzlBM

Via wikipedia, I became aware recently of the existence of music that is a cross of J-Pop (japanese pop) and Reggae. MINMI is a japanese-born singer that is apparently a leading force in this crazy confluence. Some of her songs sound more like basic pop/jpop, but the above is a clear example of the reggae and syrupy j-pop combination.

ok, the 80s.... i was never big fan of the new wave hair bands. duran duran, flock of seagulls, all that stuff. however, I did like a song that sort of emerged from that scene, namely 1983's "In A Big Country" by the Scottish band "Big Country", their only Top 40 single in the U.S. (Partial copy of original music video here. You can easily find the whole version of the original song on youtube as well, just not the music video.) The scottish influences in the music are just "neat" to me, it sounds vaguely foreign yet still comforting. One band I was in aways back put it on our list of songs to cover, but we knew we could never do it justice. So, recently an indie band has released a cover of the song, intending to mimic the 80s style, even down to the album cover (which you can see on the link). Its from the band called "I Was Totally Destroying It" who I discovered a few months back. Its not a huge change from the original, but I can appreciate what a good job they did on the cover, its high energy fun to blast in the car.

Nothing is sacred! I'm putting a Rod Stewart song in milo's thread! MWA HA HA

Faith of the Heart - Rod Stewart

This one was used as the theme song for the short-lived Star Trek series, Enterprise.
